When life gets a little boring, ya just gotta throw a crazy trip into the mix. On Thursday night I was feeling a little sad because all of Mike and my plans seemed to have been falling through lately and I didn't want to spend another boring weekend at home. So Mike calls me up and tells me he and Tim decided we are all driving to California on Friday night. They came to get me and we left at 9pm.
The trip was long and we didn't really know where we were going which was kind of exciting. On Friday night we got tired and slept in the car at a "view point" in the town of Eureka. Not much of a view point if you ask me. Something I will definitely be okay with only doing once. The next morning we realized this was not quite the beach town we thought it was. We were all a little grumpy by this realization and decided to keep driving on to San Francisco. We were so excited when we finally saw the Golden Gate Bridge, I had never been on the bridge and Mike had never been to San Francisco.

So, maybe we're a little naive, but you have to keep in mind we didn't really plan on going to San Francisco and thus we did not plan on driving across the Golden Gate Bridge. When we were almost to the bridge (when it was too late to turn around anywhere), we saw a big sign that said $6 toll for bridge. We live in the 21st century so while we were a little nervous about not having any cash, we figured we would be okay with our numerous debit and credit cards. Oh no! That would be too easy. They only accept cash and we were informed that they will send us a bill for the $6 along with a $25 service fee. In San Francisco for about five minutes and already we had spent $31! Needless to say Mike was very angry and decided he hated the city.
Next we explored the town until we found Pier 39 (thanks to Tim's iPhone). Of course Mike hated the city even more when we told him how much it costs to park.

Tim and I joked around and told Mike he wasn't allowed to pay for anything else because we didn't want him knowing how much everything cost. We went To Pier 39 and decided we all could use a drink. Tim bought.

We enjoyed the sun, the guys ate some food, and of course we went to the candy store on Pier 39 which has an amazing array of Saltwater taffy...delicious. I even brought some back for my mom and dad. After a bit we decided to go in search of a hotel. We actually lucked out and managed to find a VERY nice hotel right outside of the city. We all got cleaned up, went and bought some drinks from the grocery store (the guys were very excited about buying alcohol at a grocery store and not having to find a liquor store), then went out to dinner.
On the way to dinner we stopped at the bay to enjoy the water and pretty view.

My dinner was AMAZING! Crab cake sandwich on a sour dough bun. I am definitely making that sometime. We went back to the hotel, had a drink at the bar and went hot tubbing. The funniest part of the night was that we all three shared one king sized bed. If only I got a picture of that. We were all asleep in seconds, although Mike and I stayed up long enough to discover Tim talks in his sleep...well he moves his mouth as if he's talking, but no sound comes out (we were thankful for that).
We were woken up by housekeeping at 8am, a little annoying, but we were planning on waking up at 8:30 anyway. Packed up, got a Krispy Cream, and hit the road. The drive home was very hot and we stopped in Redding to get In & Out, something we could not leave California without having. It was tasty. We finally got back to Portland around 8pm. I was glad to be home in my parents air conditioned house, but just knowing we took a trip to San Francisco for 48 hours (including drive time) was a fun thought.
We decided it is time to get our passports because next stop, Canada!
